Success Stories – Still Going Strong at 103 Years Old

MARGARETE JENTSCHURA, 103, VISITS HER FAMILY-OWNED HEALTH FOOD STORE IN MUENSTER, GERMANY EVERY DAY.

What is Margarete Jentschura’s Secret?

(Editor’s note: We were amazed when we heard that Margarete Jentschura still visits her family-owned health food store in Muenster, Germany every day – at 103 years old! So we asked her grandson, Roland Jentschura (MSc), how she manages this.)

Vitality: Hello Roland, by now your grandmother is over 103 years old, yet she still visits her health food store most days – even at this advanced age. Where does she get the energy?

Roland Jentschura: My grandmother worked at our family-owned health food store until the age of 100, and then retired at 101. But she still goes there almost every day to talk with customers. As to the reasons for her remarkable longevity, one of her secrets is that she walks a lot! During her career as the store manager, she walked about one kilometre to the store, and one kilometre back, twice a day. She also walked a lot inside the store. And she even enjoyed walking in her spare time. She walked every day and all day long! Walking ensures good blood circulation, which in turn supplies cells and tissues with oxygen and nutrients while removing acidic metabolic waste products. Regular movement considerably promotes lifelong regeneration. Today, people tend to stand or sit on their way to and from work. But grandmother’s philosophy is: “The longer you sit, the sooner you quit – life!” Regular movement is important for a long life. My grandmother also did daily weight-bearing exercises.

Vitality: What do you mean by daily exercising? Did your grandmother go to the gym?

Roland: No, she went to work, which was her so-called gym in a way, since deliveries had to be accepted, boxes carried, and goods sorted into the shelves. Those things had to be done, it was training in a way. Today in the gym we call this “functional training” – weight-bearing exercise provokes in our body the necessary impulse to regenerate and maintain its strength and stability. Also, exercising improves flexibility and mobility and therefore the body’s performance and overall quality of life. Unfortunately movement and exercises are two factors a lot of people are missing today. Just keep in mind: “Use it or lose it!”

Vitality: And did your grandmother have any specific special foods that she favoured?

Roland: Well, today in our modern society we would declare it as specific. But it was just natural. It was just what nature provided. She ate what thousands of generations before her have been eating. Especially when she was young, my grandmother had no other choice than to consume what her garden and nature provided. Naturally it was organic. There was nothing else available. So her diet was mainly plant-based and therefore rich in vital substances and naturally alkaline-generating. And she continued to keep this as her main focus.

About 80% of her nutrition was plant-derived and alkaline. Only 20% was acidic (every now and then she had a piece of good quality meat, a coffee, a piece of chocolate and a good German beer). Generally her food was organic, natural, and mainly untreated and unprocessed. Processed foods are rich in calories, acids, and additives, but poor in vital substances. Perhaps you have heard about the saying: “The whiter the bread, the sooner you’re dead!” Our bodies need vital substances just to function, to regenerate, for a strong immune system and to stay young and beautiful.

Vitality: Didn’t she take any special supplements?

Roland: Later on in her life, when more and more processed foods replaced the natural foods in her diet, she compensated for that with a plant-derived supplement. Her son, Dr. Peter Jentschura (who is my father, a naturopathic herbalist), has researched and developed a 100-plant-granule called WurzelKraft. To create the formula, more than a 100 plants, roots, herbs, and greens are carefully dried, ground, and mixed together in a special recipe. A single spoonful is equivalent to more than a huge salad. She consumed at least one teaspoon three times a day, at every meal, just to get the variety of all vital substances that humans have been eating for millions of years and that our metabolism needs.

Vitality: What about body care products? Does your grandma use anything specific?

Roland: Well, my grandma grew up with ‘curd’ soap (used before 1930; an alkaline natural soap without chemicals), which has a high pH-value of more than 8.0. Everybody was using that for body care. And she also did lots of alkaline foot baths and full baths with an alkaline bath salt. This bath salt, known as AlkaBath, was created by Dr. Peter Jentschura to detox the body from the outside in, via the skin using the perfect pH level of 8.5. And that is also very important for a long life – to keep your body cleansed with the help of your skin. The skin is actually an organ of elimination; it is acidic because it has to eliminate a lot of acids and toxins. To detox your skin, and your whole body, it is helpful to practice alkaline body care. To me, that seems simply logical. Why should I use acidic bath salts with a pH value below 7 when I want to de-acidify my body? AlkaBath contains a lot of minerals and creates a pH value of 8.5, which is similar to the amniotic water of a mother-to-be. Detoxing is alkaline!

It is also a good idea to detoxify your tissues from the inside out. That’s why my grandma drank a lot of herbal tea, especially the 7×7 AlkaHerb created by her son Peter Jentschura. The special tea formula, which contains 49 herbs, helps to dissolve toxic residues that might be lingering in the body. In my opinion, that is one tea to detox all acids and toxins.

Vitality: Does your grandmother have any other secrets for longevity?

Roland: Yes she does! She lived by the motto: “Don’t worry! Take it easy!” My grandmother always stayed away from trouble. She didn’t want to be involved in any problems, she didn’t even want to hear about them and she didn’t think about them. I call this “mental hygiene”. She focused on her own life and how to make the best of it. And she was humble. Today we are consuming more and more, but are never satisfied. She was happy with the little things, like a good conversation and a nice cup of tea.
