  • I am very glad to read something about the drug, Fosamax. I have seen Dr. Rona myself many years ago, met him again a few years ago when he came up to Orangeville to give a talk one evening. I also worked at Harmony Whole Foods in Orangeville many years ago and so I was aware thirty years ago or so about the drug Fosamax for bone density. I had a very close friend who worked in a Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy in the Kingsway area of Toronto. She was devoted to Fosamax and took this drug for years until she began to experience vomiting and an inability to retain her food. It turned out she had oesophageal cancer. It was a particularly brutal cancer as cancers go, but she fought long and hard to maintain herself independently and her family supported her in this, as well as close friends. While I lived a distance away from her, her closest friend was the wife of the pharmacist whom she had worked for in the pharmacy he owned privately before it was sold to Shoppers. Unfortunately, informing my friend years ago about the Fosamax drug, which I refused to take when it was suggested to me, knowing of its side effects, was ignored and disparaged as 'health food store information'. Dr. Rona is right, this is a drug which should be removed from the medical & pharmaceutical market and it should be done immediately. A death like my friend experienced was horrific. She bore it with great strength but this drug needs to be removed from public use. Medical people are ignorant in prescribing it.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your friend and her negative experience with Fossamax. Her estate should be suing the drug company and the doctor that prescribed it. Perhaps if more victims did that the drug will be taken off the market.
