How to Make Your Daughter’s Birthday More Special

Every parent wants to make sure their child’s birthday is special. If you’re raising a daughter and want to go all out this year to deliver a birthday party she’ll never forget, here are some helpful suggestions.

Bring Her Playtime Fantasies to Life

Children have big imaginations, able to conjure up all kinds of magical worlds, adventures, and playmates. Still, there’s a difference between experiencing a fantasy in your head and experiencing it in real life. Want to give your daughter a birthday celebration she’ll never forget? It’s time to take playing pretend to a whole new level. Whatever your daughter dreams of, there are ways of making it a reality.

Does she like the ocean? Throw a tropical or even underwater-themed party by decorating your event space to resemble a sunny beach or the bottom of the sea. Does your little one fantasize about Hollywood stardom? Get some female impersonators for hire to stand in for her favorite celebrities, then roll out the red carpet. Does she watch Disney movies religiously? Have your guests dress up in costume as their favorite characters.

Relive Your Favorite Memories Together

Birthdays aren’t just about jumping headlong into the future, they’re also about looking back lovingly into our pasts. A great way to make your daughter feel special is to remind her of how much she’s grown over the years and of how far she’s come. Sharing fond reminiscences go a long way towards deepening the bonds of family and friendship.

One fun way to relive your favorite memories together is to place photographs from the past all around your party space. These can include pictures from previous birthdays, family vacations, school plays, and other childhood milestones. Even better, make a living timeline to contextualize these memories, with keepsakes accompanying the photos for an even stronger effect. You can also show old home movies or even resurrect a long-standing family tradition.

Set Aside Special One-on-One Time

In all the chaos of party games, live entertainment, gift giving, and sugary snacks, it can be all too easy for both you and your birthday girl to lose sight of the most important thing about this special day. That being, of course, your love for one another. All that other stuff is just icing on the cake, both literally and figuratively. That’s why it’s important to schedule some quality time for just the two of you.

There are lots of ways to get in some special one-on-one fun. You can plan a shopping spree the day before or after the big party, or take a trip to a cherished getaway spot. On the day of the party itself, consider sharing breakfast in bed or having lunch at a mutual favorite restaurant. During the party, go off on your own for a quick dance or private present unwrapping. After the party is over, cuddle up together on the couch and watch a movie before bed.
