Podcast: Managing Seizures and Other Brain Disorders Naturally

Conventional allopathic medicine has a very poor track record for treating chronic illness,
especially brain-related illnesses. I remember a hospital nurse who was brought to tears after
she learned that magnesium, omega 3 oils and B vitamins could have been used to treat her
depression for the past ten years. “Why didn’t any of the doctors in my hospital know about this?”

These safe and effective nutraceuticals have also been used to treat children with ADD
and ADHD instead of Ritalin. In today’s podcast we are going to discuss how one grateful
parent is dealing with her teen daughter’s seizures. Her condition is genetic and known as
Dup15Q Syndrome, which is caused when the 15th chromosome has duplicate copies.

Most brain challenges involve inflammation of neurons including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s
and even cancer. I learned about the use of Specialized Pro-resolving Mediators (SPM – a derivative
of omega 3) for the treatment of brain cancer and thought maybe this could help control this
young person’s seizures. The desperate mother tried SPM and got amazing results, with the
number of seizures being reduced by 90%.

Using the same reasoning I then suggested ten other nutraceuticals with efficacy against COVID brain fog, Alzheimer’s, stroke prevention and
Parkinson’s. This mother is going to try each of these alternative natural treatments one by
one and is hoping for even more success for her daughter. Conventional medicine doctors
need to learn from these functional medicine best practices and stop using prescription meds
that do not work effectively and can be very dangerous. This needs to happen soon.

10 Possible Natural Treatments for Genetic related Seizures

1. MOLECULAR HYDROGEN – Available as a gas or liquid treatment. Liquid is much less costly
and available at www.drcharlesbens.com Risk of counterindications very low.
2. REDUCED RADIATION EXPOSURE – Hardwiring all electromagnetic devices into the garage
and removing all plug-in electronic appliances from the bedroom. Risk very low.
3. VITAMIN D3 – Available via sunshine, foods and supplements. Desired blood levels 50-90
ng/ml. Turns off negative genetic messages and turns on positive ones. Risk of
counterindications very low.
4. MAKING NEUROTRANSMITTERS – Ensure adequate levels of amino acids, vitamin B12, vitamin
B6 and folate. Take a vitamin B complex plus extra of the above for optimal results. Risk
of counterindication very low.
5. MISTLETOE – European mistletoe is reported to be the best source and is a prescription
drug in many countries. There are some potential safety issues so testing for personal
oral use is recommended. It has been used for seizures and cancer for decades.
6. VITAMIN E – Some types of seizures are reduced with the use of vitamin E due to its
antioxidant impact as well as control of electronic impulses. Try to find supplements
with all four tocopherols and tocotrienols. Relatively low risk.
7. PYCNOGENOL – This French pine bark extract is well known for its ability to repair cellular
damage done during a stroke. It follows that damage to brain cells for any other reason
might also be helpful. Over the past 40 years 160 clinical trials and 450 scientific
publications have confirmed its use for ADHD as well as helping to maintain vitamin C
and vitamin E levels.
8. INCREASING BRAIN CELL ENERGY LEVELS – Protecting brain cells and repairing them requires
high levels of energy. Three well established nutrients can assist in this: berberine,
CoEnzyme Q10, and magnesium threonate. Magnesium threonate is the first choice.
Then CoQ10, which helps with Parkinson’s, is the second choice. And berberine which helps with
diabetes, cancer and brain disorders, is the third. Low risk for all three.
9. DIGESTIVE ENZYMES – Enzymes can help break down food and facilitate nutrient transport
to the cells. Karen DeFelice cured her two sons of supposed Autism with the use of
enzymes. She has written two books on the topic. They are New York Times bestsellers.
10. COCONUT OIL – Many good articles have been written on the benefits of coconut oil for the brain, especially
Alzheimer’s. Some articles suggest that the Keto diet plus coconut oil has been able to
stop some types of seizures.

Another possible resource is Dr. Bens’ Brain Health Guide, which includes surveys and
strategies to improve brain health and create a personalized brain health program. This and
most of the supplements can be found as www.drcharlesbens.com

Previously it was also
recommended to include Specialized Pro-resolving Mediators to reduce inflammation.

Charles Bens, PhD, was an internationally recognized author, speaker and consultant specializing in the fields of organizational improvement, workplace wellness and functional medicine. His creative publications and presentations have garnered praise in the form of Man of the Year recognition in the U.S. and Canada, commendation from the President of the United States and speaking engagements worldwide. "It is with a heavy heart that I must report the news that Charles passed away on Friday, October 14th, 2022. He died of a sudden heart attack. Only two hours before, we had been on a long bike ride. Sadly, his heart was not as strong as his desire to live. Shortly after taking a shower he was overcome by nausea and chest pains. He passed within thirty minutes. I was by his side. For those of you who knew him well, you’re aware that he was a health nut. One reason for his obsession was that he’d been born with a seriously arrhythmic heart. This condition took his father’s life when he was in his early 70”s. By exercising daily and staying on a great diet Charles managed to squeeze almost another decade out of his ailing heart."
