4 Ways to Repair Dry and Damaged Hair

There are hundreds of ways to style your hair, and with the help of innovative beauty tools like hot irons and straighteners, you can create signature looks any time you want. The downside to this creative freedom is that over-styling and processing your hair can cause a lot of damage. Your hair can become very dry, brittle, and dull-looking if you put it through too much abuse.

The good news is that you can still create just the right look for your hair while giving it the protection and moisture it needs. Having healthy hair doesn’t mean that you can’t play with your style or color. It just means that you need to take better care when working with different styling tools and colors.

With the help of these hair care tips, including reducing the heat of your styling tools and applying extra moisture treatments like hair activating serum, your hair can look and feel great. Let’s take a look at a few ways that you can repair your dry, damaged hair.

Lower the Temperature

Most people can’t tame their locks without the help of their blow dryer, flat iron, or curling iron. Although these tools can help you get the look that you want, they can also cause damage to your hair. The extreme heat acts to suck all the natural moisture out of your hair follicles and can create weak spots along your hair. If you are struggling with dry, damaged hair, it’s time to take your heat settings down a notch. Keeping your heat settings below 350 degrees will give your hair a break while still giving you the look that you want.

Deep Moisture

In-shower conditioners are essential to keeping your hair nourished, but for those that are dealing with damaged hair, you may need to take your moisture routine a step further. Hydrating hair masques and deep leave-in conditioners can help restore your hair’s moisture balance while providing nutrients and minerals that will help the rejuvenation process. These deep conditioning formulas are often thicker and creamer giving you deeper penetration to each strand.

Get a Trim

One of the first and most obvious signs of damaged hair is split ends. As your hair dries out, the ends become brittle and can begin to split, giving your hair a frizzy and tangled look. To minimize the effect of damage, it’s a good idea to keep your ends trimmed. Visit your favorite salon regularly and have them just dust your ends to keep them looking and feeling healthy.

Skip the Shampoo

Many brands of shampoos contain harsh chemicals that can strip your hair of its natural oils and nutrients. Choosing products that are naturally sourced and vitamin-enriched can help you to maintain crucial moisture levels. If you have dry and damaged hair, it’s recommended that you skip the shampoo stage of your daily shower and limit your use to two to three times a week at the most. Giving your hair a break from these chemical rinses can help you to repair the damage.

We all want our hair to look and feel its best. If you are struggling to tame your dry and damaged tresses, try some of these tips to help you get hair that will turn heads.
