Daphne de Gregory-Miaoulis was introduced to Neem Cream by her now husband Nick Miaoulis as a remedy for Melasma (discoloration) on her face due to hormonal changes. It completely restored her natural skin color after consistent use and she continues using it every day. Daphne was born in Jamaica and will turn 71 years “young” in November. She is a mother, grandmother, wife, trainer yoga instructor, currently President of the Abaco Chamber of Commerce, and manages Sales and Marketing at Abaco Neem Tree Farm, the first certified organic Neem farm in the world with over 30 years of experience. She believes in the importance of protecting the environment and living a healthy lifestyle.
Sales of skin care products are skyrocketing worldwide. Some are packed in elegant containers, others in plain packaging. Some are composed of synthetic ingredients, others claim to be “natural”. When all the formulas are summed up together, about 90 percent have synthetic bases. In fact, only about 10 percent of skin care products are truly “natural” or at least close to being natural.
Aging is a natural process. However, if you have taken good care of your skin by avoiding the major factors which promote premature aging, and are fortunate enough to be fairly healthy, your skin should look good without the help of chemical peels or cosmetic surgery (botox).
There are numerous benefits to natural ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products. Three of the most important benefits are less toxicity, more nutrition and nourishment for the skin, and fewer dermatological problems. Researchers believe that since the skin is a creation of nature, that which goes on it needs to be as natural as possible.
Most drugs or synthetic skincare formulas have side effects because they are not truly compatible with the human body. They are absorbed through the skin and may be as harmful as if they were ingested orally. The ingredients in these chemical products are to a large degree derived from petroleum, a nonrenewable material.
Such products block normal perspiration and restrict hair growth. This is conducive to infection because the skin cannot get the oxygen it needs. Many manufacturers are still using a variety of petroleum derived chemical ingredients (i.e. light mineral oil) in personal care products which cannot be absorbed by skin.
Thankfully, our skin can look fresh, glowing and silky-soft with the right care! Healthy looking skin, exhibited especially on the face, increases our self-esteem. Young-looking skin is achievable with the proper care.
Human skin consists of three layers:
Healthy and beautiful skin does not have to diminish with age, although the skin’s elasticity is reduced with the passage of years and life experiences become forever visible etched in the face.
With the right care and mindfulness, our skin, the body’s largest organ, can carry out its functions which are critical for life. By serving as a cover for our bodies, the skin protects our physical body. Depending on one’s age and condition, the skin requires special care individually tailored to its needs.
Because of ozone depletion, UVA and UVB rays have become a major cause of skin cancer (melanoma). The effects of UVA and UVB can also cause premature skin aging and dangerous changes of the skin. They promote the formation of free radicals, which damage proteins, fat molecules and even the DNA strands of hereditary material. The consequences: skin loses elasticity and brown age spots appear. The latter are pigment disruptions which, as a rule, develop after the age of 40, but they can also appear on the skin in young people.
Harmless spots can appear particularly on skin which has been exposed to the sun. These so-called “sun deck” areas are exposed to the sun often: nose, neck, forehead, cheeks, throat, decolette and arms. What differentiates these spots from freckles is that they do not fade in winter.
For those wishing to avoid medical procedures, these age spots can be addressed using special nourishing herbal creams from our program. The best treatment is our neem cream and neem oil blend. None of our creams contain hazardous toxic chemical ingredients. Instead, these creams contain rosehip oil and extracts of carrot, calendula, chickweed, MS, hemp.
Please note that when you are young your skin sheds its old cells within a month, whereas with older people it’s every six to eight weeks! Older skin should be cleansed with particular care. Showers with city water may contain harmful substances including bacteria, pesticides, chemicals from agricultural runoff, plus chlorine and fluoride. And showers that are too long, too hot, or too frequent, stress the skin and dry it out.
Foam bath products and conventional soaps containing sodium lauryl sulfate and artificial perfumes damage the skin’s protective acidic layer, which in any case is already weakened. And most makeup clogs the pores, so your skin cannot breathe! The average North American woman uses daily between 6 to 12 cosmetics and other skin care products.
While purchasing cosmetic and personal care products please read the labels. Preservatives are used in abundance such as parabens, phthalates, etc. are responsible for many allergic reactions. Dyes and other ingredients have also caused trouble.
Unlike ancient times, modern technology has produced tons of pollutants in our atmosphere, ground, food and water. These toxic chemicals assault our wellbeing on many fronts and studies have confirmed that the human immune system is under tremendous stress as never before.
The oil glands quit long before the heart quits. That is the sad story of aging skin. Itching, discoloration, wrinkles and skin cancer are often the result of exposure to sun, wind and cold, as well as chemical abuse and even stretching of the skin through pregnancy and/or weight gain and subsequent weight loss. Through a combination of these factors, the skin begins to deteriorate and lose its resilience.
What is the cause of wrinkling, sagging, and yellowing? The single most important cause of aging skin is our “friend” the sun, whose damaging effects are cumulative over time. The sun detroys the quality of the skin, causing it to become wrinkled. As the foundation is destroyed, it is replaced by elastone, which is not a good supporting material and does not hold the skin tight.
