In my experience, so-called “controversies,” especially in medicine, are a fight between two parties, one of whom is a liar in danger of losing a lot of money. The current “controversy” over the work of Dr. Andrew Wakefield, and his 1990s discovery of the relationship between MMR vaccines and its causative potential for autism, is a perfect example.
That MMR vaccines are one of the possible causes of childhood autism is, in light of the available evidence, beyond doubt. To my great pleasure, I learned that because of the Wakefield scandal (his licence was revoked by the British General Medical Council in January), the number of parents in the U.K. refusing to vaccinate their children rose to 39% from the previous 20% average. All Dr. Wakefield had actually suggested was that further study was needed into the questionable use of neurotoxic mercury as a vaccine preservative, and that vaccinating against all three diseases simultaneously might be an assault, rather than the intended protective assistance, for the immune system.
Wakefield, a gastroenterologist and transplant medicine specialist, developed his critique of vaccines as a mainstream researcher. He has the misfortune of working in an age in which research must not interfere with profits. Medicine is no longer informed by the 19th century ideal of being “the greatest benefit to mankind;” today, it is primarily of the greatest benefit to the global pharmaceutical industry. Medicine has become exceedingly dangerous to human health and survival as prescription drugs are now the leading cause of death.
By the end of this year, all blockbuster drugs lose their patent protection, causing an estimated annual loss of $160 billion. In Canada, however, Big Pharma will be able to save about $4 billion spent annually on promoting drugs to doctors. Vaccines are, therefore, the ideal candidate about which new profitable lies about serving the public interest can be concocted, as vaccines are assumed to be saviours of humanity. Who will dare to oppose this brand of disease “prevention”? Well, I will. I am allergic to propaganda.
Dr. Wakefield’s book, published in December, tells his story and presents the documentary evidence to separate fact from the fiction orchestrated by Big Pharma, co-opted media, and fossilized medical “experts.” His resources for parents are excellent! His 1998 research bombshell was based on earlier publications about vaccine damage, replicated many times. Primarily due to his work, mercury preservatives began to be removed from vaccines by order of the U.S. Congress in 2002, and U.S. courts have awarded millions of dollars in compensation to hundreds of parents of vaccine-injured children. Thus, on July 22, 2010, a U.S. court found that a child had a (rather common) “pre-existing mitochondrial disorder” that triggered an “MMR vaccine induced encephalopathy… with features of autism spectrum disorder and a complex partial seizure disorder as a sequela.”
Dr. Wakefield’s book is a guided tour through the skullduggery employed to pervert medical science in favour of money. His two-decade long ordeal is the metaphorical equivalent of revealing how the relatively healthy system of medical research is invaded by a deadly disease which co-opts existing immunological defenses, and knocks out the DNA repair mechanisms. The tactics used against him are repeated every year, using the same methods, in the disciplinary proceedings conducted by medical regulatory bodies against other profit-endangering researchers. These proceedings are all apparently dedicated to preserving the intellectual and financial status quo, as opposed to demonstrated positive patient outcome.
In Ontario, the College of Physicians and Surgeons even sidestepped the constitutional right to freedom of speech and the requirements of the 1996 Health Care Consent Act by ordering last year: “Dr. D. will not discourage the use of vaccines, will refer patients to their family physicians for vaccination when conventionally indicated, and will document in patients’ charts all discussions regarding vaccination.” This physician had warned parents about the increasing number of vaccine-related deaths and injuries reported in journals and by the World Health Organization (for which Health Canada has reporting requirements).
Support for the anti-vaccine camp is coming from unexpected quarters. The Canadian Medical Association Journal published evidence this month that Yellow Fever may be transmitted to children through the breast milk of vaccinated mothers. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control are examining how the Gardasil vaccine may trigger Lou Gherig’s disease. The FDA is investigating why flu shots increasingly trigger seizures in children. The Danish study that “proved” Wakefield’s fears about autism to be unfounded was shown to be fraudulent itself, and its lead author disappeared with $2 million left in the research fund. At the 9th Canadian Immunization Conference last December, three vaccine experts discussed the fraud suffusing the vaccine industry and demanded that the shoddy approvals process stop. Dr. Scott Halperin, the director of the Canadian Center for Vaccinology, observed: “The anti-vaccination movement is really the creation of pro-vaccination advocates like us, who have lumped anti-vaccination sentiment into a single monolithic group we can then rail against, ignore, and vilify.” His advice was to take criticism seriously as “legitimate concerns” and to “discuss vaccines honestly”.
In a new DVD entitled Vaccines: Prevention or Curse?, Dr. Shiv Chopra, a 35-year veteran of Health Canada, and McGill-trained drug and vaccine regulator, states: “Vaccinology is not a science but a theoretical construct with a long and sordid history of much harm and little or no proof of effectiveness for the purposes claimed… [vaccines have] never been required to prove [their] worth under the regulatory requirements of [Canada’s] Food and Drugs Act.” Dr. Chopra will be available to discuss this issue personally at the Total Health Show (April 8-10).
Mahatma Gandhi, when asked what he thought of Western culture, quipped “that would be a good idea.” Paraphrasing the Mahatma, I suggest that vaccinology as a rigorous science is an idea whose time has come; in fact, it is shamefully overdue.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (the nephew of the late President Kennedy) has a website called Global Research on which he posts very detailed information on vaccine injury cases, the autism issue, and the political developments. Google his name and his various websites come up. He provides statistics such as 700% increases of autism following vaccination programs in certain US States.

The 9th Canadian Immunization Conference at which doctors spoke out against the fraud underlying vaccine development and approval see The Medical Post, Jan., 18, 2011, front page and February 8, 2010, page 62-63. The February 8 article is worth your while to read on-line as those doctors show how every single study on which Health Canada based its decision to get Gardasil to market was flawed methodologically and compromised ethically because the funding was controlled by Merck. Such revelations are rare in standard medical publications and do not generally come from professors of medicine who are vaccine experts.

Ontario has a Health Care Consent Act of 1996. Download from www.e-laws.gov.on.ca
Its purpose is “… to provide rules with respect to consent to treatment that apply consistently in all settings …” . These include “therapeutic and preventive” measures. Consent is defined in Section 11 (1) as “… consent must be informed … given voluntarily … [and] must not be obtained through misrepresentation or fraud.” [My comment: given the vaccine industry is totally contaminated by fraud, doctors cannot provide correct information without doing some serious research on their own.] When providing information for the purposes of consent, it is stipulated that such information must include “ the nature of the treatment, the expected benefits of the treatment, the material risks of the treatment; alternative courses of action, and likely consequences of not having the treatment.” [My comment: offering and discussing “alternative courses of action” are required by law in Germany and censured by regulatory authorities like the CPSO in Ontario; most doctors don’t even know what alternatives exist to anything at all in standard medical therapy.]
Health Canada has a reporting procedure for patients, caregivers and/or doctors on adverse events from vaccination. Go to www.pha-aspc.gc.ca and download the entire form with instructions. The form was last modified on Dec. 23, 2009.
Note: the information published on Health Canada websites, as of February 2011, specific to safety and efficacy of vaccines is totally outdated and does not go beyond about 2002. The answers to the section “Most Frequently Asked Questions” amounts to nothing more than an assertion that all is well and the polite admonition to stop fretting and let health Canada protect you.
