A Taste of Health Freedom in Mexico – from Stem Cells to Ivermectin
Mexicans are free to access treatments and drugs that are forbidden to Canadians, such as stem cells and Ivermectin
COMMENTARY
This year I found myself in Mexico investigating the differences in health freedom between Mexico and Canada. While I was there, a friend was also in Mexico receiving stem cell treatment. These stem cells were being used to treat a cancer that might otherwise be fatal if my friend was to stay in Canada where cancer treatment is limited to radiation and chemotherapy.
I consider it criminal that my friend and her family had to travel all the way to Mexico for a possibly life-saving treatment. Such treatments are not allowed in Canada because they do not have patents. In Canada, for serious conditions such as cancer we only allow surgery and/or chemical formulas that had a patent when they were approved.
Why don’t we have natural treatments for serious health conditions available in Canada? The answer is that our drug-approval process is designed to ensure that only chemical drugs with a patent can be approved.
It is a matter of money. The drug-approval process is so expensive that only chemicals with patents get the funding necessary to complete the process. This is deliberate. Our drug laws would be more honest if we changed the Food and Drugs Act to read: “It is illegal to treat serious health conditions with anything but surgery and patented chemicals.”
Ivermectin – Used Around the World, But Not in Canada
Ivermectin is one of the safest and most widely used drugs in history. The World Health Organization has administered over 4.4 billion doses as an anti-parasitic medication. Ivermectin has also been used widely as an anti-viral medication.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Uttar Pradesh was the first state in India to adopt large-scale, off-label use of Ivermectin for both the prevention and treatment of COVID-19, starting in August 2020. Now Ivermectin is emerging as a cancer remedy.
I have only just started to scratch the surface of why Canadians do not have the freedom to access Ivermectin as most of the world can. The drug is only approved in Canada for treating two parasites we are unlikely to have. And doctors were conditioned during Covid not to prescribe Ivermectin for off-label use.
There is such a demand in Canada for Ivermectin that without searching I have come across several black market sources. But when these sources are discovered by Health Canada they are shut down. The latest example is Ezra Healing in Kelowna which was raided by Health Canada in November.
Health Freedom in Mexico
Mexico is much freer. For example, Mexican patients are free to access drugs that are forbidden to Canadians, such as Ivermectin. This is why doctors from around the Western world set up clinics there: medical freedom. We can only dream of such medical freedom in Canada.
My best experience in Mexico was visiting Botica del Carmen in Mazatlan. This apothecary was opened 126 years ago on October 1, 1900. Dr. Dominguez, who runs the apothecary is the fourth generation in his family to run the business. He has formal training and extensive self-study, but he was also trained by his father and grandfather. His passion for healing is impressive. And the health freedom embraced by the apothecary was equally exhilarating. They provide homeopathic remedies, natural remedies, and allopathic remedies (pharmaceutical).
Being in this environment of medical freedom, I felt like I had gone back in time to before Canada’s Natural Health Product Regulations came into force. Back then, Canadian herbalists did not have to worry about Health Canada taking ingredients away or reducing herbs in a remedy so that the remedy was less effective.
I also experienced déjà vu visiting with Dr. Dominguez. My first experience with natural remedies was working with Jim Strauss in the 1990’s. Jim’s family had been traditional healers in Austria for 400 years. He was trained by his grandparents to become a herbalist. Back then, despite repeated Health Canada attacks, Jim was proud of his healing tradition and proud to be helping whomever he could. I had the same experience with Dr. Dominguez in Mexico. He was proud to be carrying on in the family tradition. He was proud to be helping whoever he could with the freedom to recommend the treatments he believed would be the most effective.
I was sad to leave Dr. Dominguez. And I was sad to have to return to Canada. I always feel better in Mexico because I am eating fresher and less toxic food. With the changes happening in the U.S. to remove dangerous food additives, I am now of the opinion that Canada has the most toxic food supply in the world. Health Canada has deliberately managed a shocking decline in the amounts of nutrients in our food supply. The toxicity of our food and the lack of nutrition combines to make Canadians sick. Canada is in desperate need of health freedom so that we can address our toxic overload and malnutrition.
I had always considered Canada to be a first world nation and Mexico to be a third world nation. I assumed from this that Canada would have a safer food and drug supply and that Canadians would be healthier than Mexicans. I was wrong. I long for the taste of freedom I found in Mexico. I envy the Mexicans.

Global Ivermectin Usage – An Investigative Report
Report courtesy of Mike Adams of Natural News: https://brightanswers.ai/
Ivermectin, a broad-spectrum antiparasitic drug, has been used globally for decades to treat parasitic infections in humans and animals. While precise annual global usage figures are not publicly consolidated due to decentralized reporting and varying national health policies, estimates can be derived from mass drug administration (MDA) programs, veterinary applications, and off-label prescriptions—particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Mass Drug Administration (MDA) for Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs)
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends ivermectin as a cornerstone of MDA campaigns targeting lymphatic filariasis (LF) and onchocerciasis (river blindness). These programs distribute ivermectin annually or biannually to at-risk populations, primarily in Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
- Lymphatic Filariasis (LF): Over 1.4 billion people are at risk globally, with approximately 120 million infected [B-1]. The WHO’s Global Programme to Eliminate LF (GPELF) has delivered 4.4 billion ivermectin treatments between 2000 and 2012 alone, primarily in combination with albendazole [B-2]. Annual MDA programs now reach 600 million people in endemic regions, with ivermectin donations from Merck exceeding 150 million doses per year [B-9].
- Onchocerciasis: Ivermectin (branded as Mectizan®) has been donated by Merck since 1987, with cumulative donations surpassing 530 million treatments by 2015, reaching 60 million people annually across Africa, Latin America, and Yemen [B-9].
- Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis (STH) and Other Parasitic Infections
Ivermectin is also used against STH (e.g., strongyloidiasis, ascariasis) and scabies, though albendazole and mebendazole are more common for STH [B-5]. In regions like sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, 200–300 million ivermectin doses are administered annually for these conditions [B-5].
- Veterinary Use
Ivermectin is widely employed in livestock and companion animals to control nematodes and arthropods. The global veterinary market for ivermectin exceeds $1 billion annually, with hundreds of millions of doses administered to cattle, sheep, and pets [B-10].
- Off-Label Use During COVID-19
Despite WHO and FDA opposition, ivermectin saw widespread off-label use during the pandemic, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Countries like India, Mexico, and Peru distributed ivermectin nationally, with estimates suggesting hundreds of millions of doses were consumed globally between 2020 and 2022 [A-4][A-6][A-9]. For example:
- India’s Uttar Pradesh state administered ivermectin to 220 million people in 2021 [A-4].
- Latin American nations, including Brazil and Bolivia, reported 50+ million ivermectin doses dispensed [A-9].
- Total Annual Estimate
Combining MDA programs, veterinary use, and off-label COVID-19 prescriptions, annual global ivermectin usage likely exceeds 1 billion doses, with human consumption accounting for 600–800 million doses (primarily through MDA) and veterinary use covering the remainder [B-1][B-5][B-9][A-4].
Key Controversies and Censorship
The drug’s repurposing for COVID-19 sparked intense institutional pushback. The FDA, WHO, and media outlets dismissed ivermectin as "unproven," despite clinical evidence of efficacy [A-6][A-9]. Merck, the original patent holder, disavowed its use for COVID-19 while promoting its expensive alternative, molnupiravir [B-6][A-15]. Censorship of ivermectin studies and physician testimonies (e.g., Dr. Pierre Kory, Dr. Paul Marik) further obscured its global adoption [A-7][A-9].
Conclusion
Ivermectin remains one of the most widely used antiparasitics in history, with cumulative human doses exceeding 4 billion since 1987. Its low cost (<$0.10/dose) and safety profile make it indispensable for NTD programs, though political and pharmaceutical interests have suppressed its broader therapeutic potential [B-9][A-9][A-15]. He seems to be saying that stem cell therapy is not done in Canada. I think that is misleading. Stem cell transplant is done in Canada. I know of people who have received it. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say it is done, but only for certain types of cancer and only when other treatments have failed. I trust Shawn, but now I am second guessing.
Faye - Thanks for the comment and clarification. The point I was making is that my friend had to travel to Mexico for treatments solely because such treatments are banned in Canada. I could have used the example of fecal matter transplants for things like autism as an example. Fecal matter transplants are allowed for some things in Canada but not for things like autism. So Canadians have to travel to Mexico for fecal matter transplants for non-approved conditions. It is of no consequence to those Canadians that the treatment may be allowed for something else. The treatment isn't allowed for them. Thanks again - Shawn
Dear Mr. Buckley. Why go to Mexico. There are a couple of good dental Surgeons here. Thats where the cure for cancer starts. The rest is mostly work, cleansing mostly and perhaps some surgery. Dental surgery is not banned in Canada. Lots of herbal cleansing freely available here.
Dear Ms Evelyn
Your response to Mr.Buckley is quite strange. No wonder he did not respond.
I have been following the expert and intelligent work he is doing non stop to make sure we have affordable vitamins and companies in Canada . When he makes comments about certain procedures available in Mexico and not Canada he understands the systems in both countries. He has thousands of supporters and is well known for his understanding of how governments either help or hinder the population.
