Every Thursday evening, the Big Carrot natural food market hosts free lectures by a variety of wellness experts. The lectures take place above their store at 348 Danforth Avenue, and provide an opportunity to learn about the latest health topics and gain tools to optimize well-being. Upcoming lectures include:

April 6: Becoming Mindfully Organized – As we spring into a new season, it’s an opportunity for us to clean and declutter not only our physical space but our thoughts and minds as well. Cherie Cox is a teacher and  motivator who has learned how organization can enhance happiness.

April 13: Nutrigenomics – Ever wondered why a diet that works well for someone else doesn’t work for you? The answers are in your genes. Learn how your DNA plays a role in determining what you should eat and what lifestyle changes you can make in order to achieve your best long-term health. Joanna Bowen, CNP, partners with geneticists and other healthcare practitioners to develop personalized dietary programs.

April 20: How Your Toxic Load Impacts Your Health –  Learn about easy, practical changes you can make to better your everyday life and your health, without compromising the health of our planet. Dr. David Wang, ND, is the founder and formulator of Pranin Organic products and developer of continuing education courses for Holistic Nutritionists.

April 27: Alkalizing to Detox and Regenerate – Acids and toxins create stagnation and degeneration of the lymphatic system. Learn why detoxification through proper alkaline-acid balance is crucial to your wellbeing and how to get started. Jeanette Annecchini is a Certified Alkaline Health Coach, and Detox Specialist.

Founded in 1990, Earth Day Canada is a national nonprofit that inspires and supports people across the country to connect with nature and build resilient communities. In Toronto, Earth Day Canada is hosting two public events, on April 20 and 22.

April 20:  StreetPLAY  on Pendrith Ave, between Christie and Shaw, from 4 to 7 pm. Join hockey legend Ken Dryden, city councillor Mike Layton, and other advocates of street play for a friendly game of ball hockey. Ride bikes, scooters, and skateboards on a network of ramps; create a giant chalk mural, play hopscotch and other fun games. Enjoy free food, drinks and music.

April 22:  The main Earth Day event, ParkPLAY, will feature the “Wild About Canada” pop-up adventure playground. It takes place at Trinity Bellwoods Park, between Queen W. and Dundas W., east of Crawford (north of playground), from 11 am to 3 pm. Kids will have the chance to  build, create, and make believe.

Celebrate Earth Day at the Toronto Botanical Garden on Saturday, April 22, from 12 to 4 pm. Kick off the growing season with TBG’s family-friendly Earth Day celebration. Help plant the Teaching Garden, create nature crafts with DiscoverAbility, listen to garden-themed stories, and enjoy a healthy smoothie made with FoodShare’s blender bike.

Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. Lug a mug to help reduce waste.

An 8-week series of Vision Improvement classes offered by Alexandra Hughes will run on Wednesdays, from April 26 to June 14, 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Toronto artist Candace Wilson is pleased to offer a new series of “Chakra Healing” paintings for sale through her website.
