MAPLETON’S ORGANIC FARMS • MOOREFIELD CSA; FG; FM: This working organic dairy farm, founded in 1999 by Ineke Booy and Martin de Groot, consists of 450 acres of certified organic land, 70 milking cows, chickens, turkeys, pigs, donkeys, alpacas, and a pony. AVALON ORCHARDS • INNISFIL Sadly, Avalon Orchards will not be open for pick-your-own in 2017; it will be reopening in 2018. After an amazing crop last year, the orchard has decided to take a rest as they had very little blossom and fruit set. CANADIAN ORGANIC GROWERS (COG) A non-profit charity for over 40 years, COG helps farmers, gardeners, and consumers transition to and learn about organic growing and eating. Donating to or volunteering for COG gives COG the clout to support consumers and growers of organic food. GUELPH ORGANIC CONFERENCE AND TRADE SHOW • January 25 – 28, 2018 The 37th Annual Guelph Organic Conference & Trade Show is the event “Where Farmers & Consumers Meet.” It is held in the Guelph University Centre. This FREE two-day trade show (January 27 – 28) promises a stimulating weekend organic sampling experience. Organic consumers who support organic farming can talk directly with certified organic growers, organic product distributors and retailers as well as market garden and permaculture experts. Are you planning your own farm? Organic soil and crop consultants in the trade show will guide you. Simply walk into the Guelph University Centre, hang up your coat and enjoy a stimulating walk-about with almost 40 organic sampling booths (the trade show totals over 160 tables). Shoppers can buy directly from organic food suppliers – stock up on organic chocolate, cheeses, jams, miso, coffee, cranberry juice, pickles, vegetables, organic cereal samples, books, seeds and small equipment flyers. The full 43-workshop program includes talks and sessions on small-scale root cellars, how to start your market garden, caring for your organic livestock, and how to be an informed organic consumer.
